Prince Williams Bridge was recognised at the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) South East England Excellence Awards, held at Leeds Castle on Friday 24th June 2011. Set within the heart of the historic Fort Amherst, the pedestrian footbridge, now provides public access to parts of the Fort that were previously inaccessible, and allows visitors impressive views across Chatham. Described as "modest in appearance so as not to detract from the Fort" itself, the bridge includes lightweight modern elements such as fibreglass flooring  and a stainless steel balustrade.
